Annapurna and its people
The word ‘Annapurna’ is made of two distinct Nepali words: ‘anna’ means ‘grains’ and ‘purna’ means ‘abundant’ which can be put together to translate to ‘Abundant/everlasting food’. Annapurna lies in the north-central part of Nepal and the Himalayan massif lies with the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). The ACAP covers an area of 7,629 sq. km. and was established in 1992. Annapurna is home to one of the 8,000m+ mountains, the Annapurna I (8,091m). The region has a climate ranging from tropical to alpine. The scenery is diverse with snow-capped peaks to lowland villages filled with all sorts of ethnic and cultural diversity.
